Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Then come to the Tr!ckster Hither and Yon gallery show! Come check out my art and the art of many other fabulous artists- most notably that of Alina Chau. and fabulous glitter art by the esteemed Glitterside's Charlene Kelly. I'll be there tonight (June 21st) with some of my mini comics to hand out, so feel free to come up and say hi!

The show runs through the 31st, so get bit by the travel bug and head on over to Berkeley to give it a look! :)
With Round Two of :icontechnicoloroct: wrapped, I thought I'd give a shout out to all the great art the entrants have been churning out- namely, some fantastic fanart of my toon Salty dog Selby!

Judging on the round two entries should wrap this weekened, so be sure to stay tuned for TechnicolorOCT Round 3!
Been coming across some fabulous comics during work that I've not only bookmarked them, but want to share the wealth by featuring them here. Definitely all worth the read!

The Back Story, by all-mug is a very personal peek into growing up with scoliosis and put to paper with lovely watercolors and alotta heart.
The Back Story (Page Four) by all-mug
Sakana, by MyNameIsMad  is a comic about life, love and a whole lotta dead fish. Who knew a tale of two brothers running a fish stand in Japan could get you so hooked? That or you'll get a mighty hankering for some seafood. I regret none of these puns

SAKANA 11 by MyNameIsMad
Fear, by Tallychyck deals with something I think any woman finds themselves worrying about when traveling alone. A great read that might just change your outlook on tackling the 'big bad' world out there.
Home Is Where The Internet Is - Fear 2/10 by Tallychyck

The Rotten Twinkie, by King-Wasted is the result of an awesome comic tournament called 'The Fridge' which pitted various kitchen goodies against one another. Follow the adventures of Sheriff Twinkie as he protects the fridge from all things rotten.
Rotten Twinkie Round 1 by King-Wasted

EDIT: Ok ok one more! Step-Monster, by ToxicToothpick is as the title touts. What happens to two kids who end up having a monster for a parent? Ionly started reading it, but I am loving it!
Step-Monster II: Page 14 by ToxicToothpick

So sit back, click these links and enjoy the read. I know I did! :la:
Is that a...?

Did that just...?

Wow, a Daily deviation!? And my first? BRB, crying 5EVA.

Ok, I'm over it.

JOY! Excitement! Thank you so very much etherealbeast for finding my Fluid Negotiations comic DD worthy and suggesting it! I am so unbelievably stoked that my first DD is not only a comic, but work related! Positively tickled to see the community sharing a laugh with what goes on with CEA behind the scenes. There's definitely more hilarity in dem hills if you're a mind to browse.

I'm overwhelmed by all the comments and favs y'all are tossing my way I hope I get a thank you to everyone. Cheers! :D
Yeeeah, you lot were sharp this year, but hey we had some fun, didn't we? Definitely a fun April Fools prank and always glad to see the community laughing along with us instead of becoming alarmists and crying art theft. Hooray!

The deviantART staff were asked to help whip up some thoughtART for the event pool and now that I've got all of my contributions together I realize I managed to bang out a good amount! Did any of you happen to get ones that I made? I know I tried my best to comment on all of them and laugh long with you as we marveled at each others talented and artistic thoughts :la: I've seen quite a few of the ones I made make it to the 'What's hot' view which is pretty groovy. Although I credit that solely to the fact popular artists managed to get my thoughtART, so go you!

April Drawing Challenge! by Kanthara

:star:Karine’s April Drawing Challenge: Draw something every day in the month of April.:star:

Sounds tough! What do I have to do?

Draw. Something. Anything. Any topic. Any level of detail. Every day. For a month. And share it.

Sounds cool! How do I sign up?

You don’t need a tumblr account, but it helps. You can follow this tumblr, tell your tumblr followers about it so a lot of people join in. You can send a request to be a posting member, or you can just make a submission (which a moderator will need to approve).

Post either your art or a link to your art using either your access or the submission form every day in April, starting on April 1st.

Sounds simple! Are there any other rules?
Nope. Well, not really. It has to be creative drawing - from doodles and sketches to full fledged, detailed, CG graphics, on any subject. Stuff you would normally be drawing anyway counts (so, for those who do webcomics, that counts) but stuff you draw for your job doesn’t. It can be anything. I will post a different drawing exercise every day during the month of April for anyone who would like to use it. You may also post every day a scan or screenshot of work in progress, so for example you can post a series of thumbnail sketches one day, your sketch the next, inks after that, colours… if that’s how the work flows from you. You can post only doodles all month, observational drawings, something straight out of your fevered brain, inking exercises, anything at all, so long as it’s a piece of art that you did that day. It would also be really cool if you could look at other people’s art and comment on a couple of other posts every day. Disqus is enabled, and you’re encouraged to use it.

ADDENDUM: Please label any art that reveals private parts of the anatomy as NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and place them behind a thumbnail or a text link.

I try and participate in this event every year and am super excited to get started this month. I hope to see other deviants involved in drawing something everyday on dA or tumblr. Best of luck all!

My week through art! :la: How was yours?
If you're looking for an accurate representation of what's in store for me come June, WeBird has summed it all up in this hilarious deviation.

My Life After June 9th by WeBird

I rabidly bought my Animal Crossing New Leaf bundle pack and await it with bated breath. Say, if anyone else is frothing at the mouth as excited as I am and looking to swap friend codes once this all goes live let's swap them!

While you wait, why not give a spooky and chilling fan story a read? It comes with visual aids! :la: I read Animal Crossing- Beware the Crossing back when I played the original game on the..what was it? A gamecube? In any case it completely blew my mind by way of story and how this particular player saw and was inspired by the game. Not to mention by the time you near the end there are some fabulous pieces of art that not only enhance the story, but add to the spooky BUT I'VE ALREADY SAID TOO MUCH.

As you can tell I am excited over all things new leaf. See you at the crossing!

Alright, alright, settle down. While this isn't crazy serious, it's still an update worth note!

Throughout history, art and artists have challenged preconceived notions, pushed boundaries and taken on subjects often considered taboo. Art is alive and constantly changing, much like the community at deviantART is. The CEA Team believes that deviantART policy must grow, adapt and change, to allow artists to push boundaries and express themselves whenever legally and morally possible. Policy must remain flexible in order for something, which was initially ruled as an absolute, to bend and change in order to allow for artists and quality to shine through.

Lesbians 101 - Lesson 3 by FindChaos

One example of this kind of challenge to policy is with FindChaos's Lesbians 101 series-- a quirky and often humorous guide on lesbianism. Unfortunately, one installment of this guide depicted sex toys, which was removed in accordance with our FAQs prohibiting pornographic imagery. This issue prompted a discussion among staff and our legal adviser regarding our policies and FAQs. Are items like sex toys to be considered inherently and inescapably pornographic, or, as in the case of Lesbians 101, could members express themselves artistically and responsibly despite the content?

The CEA team held a series of meetings about the FAQ that details the prohibitions made in regards to the depiction of sex toys, and after some careful discussion (and using lesbians 101 as an example) we came to the decision that deviations such as these should have a place within the deviantART community. Naturally, we needed to update our FAQ to reflect this. We have spent the week working on the language of the FAQ, and the changes are live!  Here's a link for you to see:

FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic imagery'; what do you consider this to be?

So what has changed? And what does this realistic depiction mean?

What has changed is that sex toys can now be depicted in deviations (given certain conditions). As for "Realistic", this refers primarily to shape, so a realistic shape and unrealistic candy coloring would still lead to removal. By contrast, a review of the sex toys in Lesbians 101 would not fall under realistic depiction as they have spines, beads, and rabbits protruding from them. We still maintain that sex toys cannot be depicted in use as per the FAQ.

Please also note that context comes into play here. Realistic depictions of sex toys are normally removed, but the educational context of the work such as those used in Lesbians 101 and the clinical treatment of the subject means that this submission is fine with a mature tag- that will not necessarily be the case for other deviations. Because each submission is judged based upon the content, context, and merit of that specific deviation. If there are any doubts on the part of the artist for any reason, they are always free to submit their questions to the +help Desk, through Policy Inquiries, and we'll be more than happy to help!

We understand that a change to such a specific part of this FAQ may be surprising--there may even be be a lot of attention drawn to this deviation, and it will definitely be a mix of negative and positive--but we really believe that this approach will garner the greatest understanding from the community.
Sextoy05 by kozispoon
Thank you to ~FindChaos for her patience and for allowing us to feature her deviation for the sake of this discussion. Be sure to check it out!

It's incredibly exciting when a piece of artwork sparks a discussion amongst our team, and we hope to continually grow and change while still maintaining a safe, artistic environment!
deviantART went down for the span of, lets say thirty minutes.
I was on tumblr at the time so I went to see if anyone was talking about it.

Draw This Again 2012 by kozispoon

Amazing what a couple years can do to how you draw, right? How many things can change, improve, or even stay the same! Bampire had the right idea showcasing those comparisons with the 'Draw This Again' meme. It even inspired the creation of a whole group dedicated to checking out deviants meme making masterpieces- :icondraw-this-again-meme: which I highly recommend checking out-some crazy improved stuff is in there.

For those of you looking to show off your improvement AND win prizes for it, be sure to hit up the 'Draw This Again' contest hosted by deviantART! With 50 Semi-Finalists and 10 Finalists eligible for bundles of prizes, there's a crazy huge chance of winning with your 2012 art skills!

Draw This Again ContestBack to School

The air is crisp and the leaves are changing, which can only mean one thing - school is back in session! DeviantART is celebrating the new school year with an improvement-themed contest, inspiring interviews, and an opportunity to help those in need.

To celebrate artistic growth, we're turning one of deviantART's most popular memes, Draw This Again, created by the amazing *Bampire, into a site wide contest. We're challenging you to take a piece from your past and draw it again to show how you've grown. Use the template below to submit your past and new work as a single entry to the Draw This Again Contest.
50 Semi-Finalists and 10 Finalists will receive bundles of prizes. Details below.

If you're interested in getting a derpy version of your own, do give Zeurel a look. He's currently going through some rough financial straits, so not only are you getting some awesome (and cheap!) artwork of your very own, but you're also helping out a fellow artist. For more info, be sure to give his journal a looksee.

May I have yo' attention please - Emergency comishEarly this month I was admitted to the emergency ward at the local hospital.
Needless to say I received my medical bill this morning and it isn't pretty.
$3800 total.
Only having just emigrated and the government still taking ages to process my stuff to allow me to work, and Ashley barely making enough to just pay rent as is, this is something we cannot afford.
So...
It's comission time!
Now, I really don't like begging or what have you but this is some serious business.
Below is a list of what i offer, how to pay and how to go about contacting me for a comission;
Commissions avaliable :
Basic character Chibi (examples: http://zeurel.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=scraps#/d1rzogf http://zeurel.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=scraps#/d1rzo70 ) (Inks only/coloured) - $ 10 / $15
Full character image (examples: http://zeurel.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=scraps#/d2zszfb ) (ink/coloured) - $20 + $10 for extra characters
Animated gif 2-3 second loop. Extra cost if y

In related news, I cannot get over the awesome that is bittermause's custom munny making figurines. I managed to commission and nab my very own Mimi the Mime! She even took the time out to go above and beyond by giving me the option to go for accessories, which might I add, is flawless. Mimi is nothing without her mallet. She now has a permanent spot on my desk, right next to my Steamboat Willie.

She's also got a handy dandy journal with details and infos on how you can grab your very own as well. Definitely worth the read.

GORGE reprint and Vinyl Fig Commissions  :star-empty: NEWS :star-empty:

Hey gang! If you were one of the few people that weren't able to get a copy of Gorge back in April, here's your second chance! I just put in an order for five copies and I'll be accepting pre-orders for them starting now!
I will continue ordering quantities until the end of September, depending on the success of previous orders.
Copies are $9 in the US and $10 in Canada (Both include S+H). Due to shipping expenses, this final print run will be limited to US and Canadian residents only!  For pre-ordering, please contact gorgecomic .@. gmail only! Do not contact me about it via DA note, Twitter, Tumblr, or my main gmail.  This is just for organization purposes and that I don't leave anyone out.
And for both EnterVOID brethren and non out there, I also offer custom vinyl character figurine commissions!
Each 4.25' figurine is painted with liquitex acrylic, water-proof felt tips, and finished with acrylic fixative.

Are there any deviants you always go back to for commissions? :)
Holy moly, did we just go full circle into another
birthday? YOWZA! Not to mention a year of me working here! Seems like
only yesterday I was submitting this deviation, celebrating my win over
getting hired.

Then only a week later I was thrown into deviantART's 11th birthday
festivities with a team and job I was still getting to know. It was

definitely had no idea what to expect.

In hindsight, I had nothing to worry about! The team
at HQ are a great bunch and have a fabulous knack for making both
community and fellow team members feel welcome. Besides, if there's one
way to get to know new people, its definitely with a party! Well, except
for Ayame-Kenoshi She's forever alone.

Last year was not only my first time at San Diego comic con, but also the first time I got to see dA at work sponsoring artist alley. The artists seemed so at ease and taken care of, I'm glad to see we're sponsoring the alley again! I think I'm most excited over the winning deviants who nabbed scholarships and an opportunity to showcase their work this year. Such as the ever talented :iconlarkinheather: who recently had a daily deviation worthy comic right here?

We're sponsoring Artists' Alley 2012!

We're headed to Comic-Con International:
San Diego to sponsor Artists' Alley!
We Love Artists' Alley

We're back at Comic-Con!
Last year, our sponsorship of Artists' Alley was a huge success. We were able to provide a more comfortable environment for the artists, display their art on huge screens over the Alley, and let people attending the convention draw with deviantART muro on fantastic digital screens. We plan to do this and more in 2012 as we take on the great pleasure of sponsoring Artists' Alley at San Diego Comic-C

I'll probably be going for a day to snatch up totally necessary swag, but for those who can't make it bodily, you can still be kept in the loop by following the journals posted to the Comic-Con group. Happy conventioneering people!
